Any scale will do, as long as all players use the same scale for their mechs (or are content with using different scales). Also, each player will need up to 10 six sided dice during gameplay.

A Mech consists of 6 bodyparts:

1.) Head

2.) Torso

3.) Left Arm

4.) Right Arm

5.) Left Leg

6.) Right Leg

For each bodypart, points have to be bought. You have to buy 1 point per part at least and you can buy 6 points per part at most. You start by buying the first point for 1 bolt. Then you buy each further point consecutively paying its costs in bolts. (So the 1st point costs 1 bolt, the 2nd costs 2 bolts and so on ..) A regular mech can be constructed for 40-60 bolts, but mechs that have been constructed for more or even fewer bolts are not unheared of either. For an introducory game, 40 bolts per player are recommended.

Each bodypart provides a different effect for the mech:

Head: For an attack roll this number or lower on each die to score a hit (see arms)

Torso: Can use this many heat before overheating. Also, excess hits to other parts go here.

Left Arm: Roll this many dice in an attack for weapon mounted here.

Right Arm: Roll this many dice in an attack for weapon mounted here.

Left + Right Leg: Move sum of both legs in inches per movement action.

Also each point bought for a part gives that part a higher sustainability: Whenever a part takes a hit, that part's points gets reduced by the amount of hits taken (see combar for details).

A mech has a front side and a back side. Draw a line from one shoulder to the other to "divide" the mech into front and back.

Upgrades

Each body part of a mech may receive up to 1 upgrade for its costs in bolts, which is stated in parantheses next to the upgrade's name. For the arms these upgrades usually will be some kind of weapon. For the other body parts there are pieces of equipment usually upgrading the mech in one way or another.

Head

Rocket Launcher (1). Active. A Rocket Launcher comes with 6 rockets and is usually mounted on the mech's shoulders. For one action that does not generate any Heat a pilot performs an Attack action, firing off any number of remaining rockets, rolling 1 die per rocket launched to check for hits. A rocket fired off is gone for the remainder of the game and thus cannot be reused. Rockets can be fired off like a far-range weapon and they ignore the -1 modifier on the Base Target Number if the target is within cover.

Reaction protocol (2). Active. Perform the Overwatch action. Generate 1 Heat and receive +1 on each dieroll checking whether this mech may react for the remainder of this turn.

Targeting System (3). Active. Perform an Attack action. Generate 1 Heat to reroll all dice not resulting in a hit once and take the new result.

Torso

Evasion Protocol (1). Passive. Whenever this mech would receive a critical hit, reroll the crit die once and take the new result instead. Using the Evasion Protocol does not generate any Heat.

Heat Exchanger (2). Passive. Once per game the pilot may use the heat exchanger to reset the mech's current Heat immediately to 0. Using the Heat Exchanger does not generate any Heat.

Additional Armour (3). Passive. Reduce all hits this mech receives by 1, no matter the body part hit. Using Additional Armour does not generate any Heat.

Arms

Melee Weapon (1). Active. Required for attacks in base to base contact. Attacking in melee gives a pilot a +1 on the Base Target Number in combat. Attacking in Melee generates 1 Heat.

Energy Shield (X). Active. As an Energy Shield can have different levels of protective strength, it comes with flexible costs. You have to start by buying the 1st level. Then you buy each further level consecutively. Each level bought costs its level+1 in bolts. Whenever your mech receives hits, the hits is first reduced from the protective levels of the Energy Shield. As long as there is at least 1 level of the Energy Shield remaining, once during his turn a pilot may use 1 action to generate 1 Heat to restore 1 level of the Energy Shield up to the number of levels you have bought.

Ranged Weapon (1-3). Active. The costs for a Ranged Weapon depend on whether it is a Short Range Weapon (1), a Long Range Weapon (2) or a Far Range Weapon (3). The Weapon type determines by name the maximum range a weapon can fire. Ranges for weapons are up to 8" (short), 8"-16" (long) and 16"-32" (far). Firing in short range gives a +1 to the Base Target Number, at long range does not give any modifier at all, at far range gives a -1 on the Base Target Number. Firing a Weapon generates 1 Heat.

A Short Range Weapon may be fired twice per action generating 1 Heat for both shots altogether.

When hitting your target with a Long Range Weapon, the target is pushed back in a straight line from your mech a number of inches equal to the amount of hits it received (or as far as possible). After firing a long range weapon, you have to generate 1 Heat to reload it.

While you may direct your attacks at different targets, when both arms bear the same kind of weapon, you may fire them off synchronized, generating 1 heat per weapon fired. Synchronized fire gives you a +1 to your Base Target Number.

Legs

(Upgrades for legs are installed in both legs. The costs in parantheses are the costs for the installation in both legs altogether. As soon as any leg receives a critical hit, the entire Upgrade is destroyed.)

Boosters (1). Active. Generate 1 Heat to move 2X" during each Run action this turn. When using Boosters, to move X inches through difficult terrain, only X Heat need to be generated.

Jump Jets (2). Active. Jump Jets are installed in both legs, so upon selecting Jump Jets for one leg you automatically install Jump Jets in the other leg, too. Both installations cost 2 bolts altogether. During a Move action, Jump Jets allow a pilot to have his mech ignore any one piece of terrain by jumping over it. Treat the piece of terrain as if it was not there at all. The mech's move has to end in a valid position, though, where the model can stand without toppling over. After the use of jump jets the mechs move ends for this action. Each use of the Jump Jets generates 1 Heat.

Grappling Feet (3). Active. Generate 1 Heat to use this mech to climb perpendicular surfaces during the Move action. The Move action must end in a position allowing the mech's model to stand without toppling over, though, or be immediately followed up by Run actions until the model can be placed in a position where it can stand without toppling over.

Creation of a pilot

Within a mech's Torso there is the control centre, operated by a human pilot. Each pilot brings one skill you can select from the list below. A pilot's skill description tells you when and how you may use that skill.

Blind Fire

This pilot does not need to be able to draw a line of sight to a target. When no line of sight can be drawn, reduce the dice rolled by one die.

Cover Expert

This pilot knows how to make the best use of cover. While in cover, a mech attacking this mech has to reroll each hit once and take the second result.

Dodge

Upon being selected as a target for a ranged attack, this pilot may move his mech up to 1" into any direction. If he becomes an invalid target this way, the other pilot can select a new target if possible. If for the attacker selecting a new target is not possible, his mech does not generate Heat either.

Fighter

This pilot receives a +1 per die in melee.

Eagle Eye

For this pilot, short range goes up to 10", long range goes up to 18", far range goes up to 26".

Multitasker

This pilot may intterupt the own Move action to perform one Attack action, generating Heat as usual. After the Attack action is finished, the pilot may continue with the Move action and move the mech any part or all of the remaining Move action.

Naturalist

This pilot can move the mech through soft cover without reducing it to difficult terrain.

Observant

After his final activation this turn, this Pilot goes into Overwatch without generating Heat.

Range Master

Before a match this pilot swaps the modifier for short range EITHER with long range OR with far range.

Sniper

Whenever you roll for an attack, you may reroll 1 die using the second result.

Techie

This pilot knows, how to navigate even the most damaged mech. With this pilot during a Move action you may move your mech up to 2" into any direction, even if there are no points left in the mech's legs.

Uplink

Once a turn this pilot can use 1 action to have any other allied mech Perform a Run or an Attack action. The other mech generates Heat as usual.

Terrain

There are five kinds of terrain: Solid terrain, Soft cover, Difficult terrain, Impairing terrain and Open terrain. In the descriptions below some examples are stated to give you a rough idea of what is what. Agree with the other players which piece of terrain counts as what.

Solid terrain is anything a mech can neither see nor walk through. Concrete buildings or greater rock formations for example.

Soft cover (trees or wooden buildings for example) is terrain providing cover when shot into or through. Soft cover counts as difficult terrain when walking through it. As soon as a mech walks more than halfway through soft cover, the cover is destroyed and only difficult terrain remains. (You may want to mark or replace the according piece of terrain.)

Difficult terrain is all kind of terrain hindering a mech on his advance but won't hinder the mech shooting across.

Impairing terrain won't let a mech move through, but it may still fire across umhindered, such as a lake or a rift.

Open terrain is just placed on the table to make it look more beautiful. It does not hinder the mech in any way.

Turn

Each turn players go through 3 phases in this order: Upkeep Phase, Initiative Phase, Action Phase. Perform the steps of those phases as described below.

Upkeep phase

Reduce your mech's current Heat level by 1.

Initiative Phase

Roll 1D6, add the point value of your mech's Head. From highest to lowest result select at which position on this turn you want to go. A position taken cannot be selected by anyone else. On equal results, the mech with higher Head may select first. If still equal, roll again, vying for position - higher roll gets to select first.

Action phase

During the action phase players get to activate their pilot/mech unit in order determined during initiative. In that order, all players go through their first action. After each mech has acted once, all players go through their second action and so on. A player may forfeit any further actions for this turn at any time. In that case only any remaing players get to perform actions. (Exception: the player goes on overwatch - see below.)

Once per turn each pilot can perform one Move Or Take Aim action with his mech not generating any Heat at all. On top of that a pilot may have his mech perform more actions, with each action generating Heat according to the number in parantheses behind the action's name. A pilot can have his mech generate Heat equal to the points bought for his torso without consequences. If the pilot has his mech generate more Heat, the mech can receive damage or even damage its own internal systems.

So for each action perform these steps in order:

- Generate Heat

- Check for overheating

- If overheated, roll a die. If the die's result is equal to or below the amount of Heat this mech has overheated, receive the number rolled in hits (see combat). Also, this mech cannot perform any action any more until his Heat level has sunken to a level equal to or below his current Torso points.

Example: A mech has 3 Torso points. In this turn, the pilot already has generated 3 Heat without consequences. He generates another Heat (being at 4/overheated by 1), rolls a 5 and continues. He generates yet another heat (being at 5/overheated by 2), rolls a 4 and continues. As he is daring today, he generates yet another Heat (being at 6/overheated by 3), rolls a 2 and finishes his turn, receiving 2 hits on his mech. To make things worse: This mech will spend the next 3 turns cooling down.

- Else perform the desired action.

Move OR Take Aim (0)

Move the sum of the points in each leg in inches, turning as many times as you want. Walking through difficult terrain (bushes, piles of trash, vehicle wrecks) requires 2 points per full inch walked through.

A mech may move through soft cover but destroys it that way, reducing it to difficult terrain.

At the end of a Move action you may turn the mech to have it face into any direction.

Moving out of melee: As melee between mechs is more about brute-forcing your way through your opponent than the elegant dance of thrusting and parrying, no mech ever gets to retaliate or something. So if you want to move your mech out of melee, just do so.

Instead of performing a Move action a pilot can use his systems to Take Aim on another mech, giving him a +1 modifier on the Base Target Number. Directly after a Take Aim action an Attack action must follow.

As described above, this action can only be selected once per activation!

Run (X)

Move X inches, turning as many times as you want. To move X inches through difficult terrain, 2X Heat need to be generated.

A mech may run through soft cover but destroys it that way, reducing it to difficult terrain.

At the end of a Run action you may turn the mech to have it face into any direction.

Attack (1/2)

If you want to attack an opposing mech, at first you have to check, whether it is in range of your weapon. If it is not, just assume you have opted for a different action here. If it is, continue: Roll a number of dice equal to the arm you are using. Additionally roll one more die, the "crit die", you can tell apart from the others (e.g. by colour or by size).

Note: Some mechs are designed with big hand-like grasping mechanisms holding weapons. Those mechs can discard these weapons to fight in melee. Technically all mechs with a fist or at least one arm without a weapon can fight in melee. However, only a mech with a dedicated melee weapon on one arm receives a +1 modifier on his base target number when attacking with that arm.

The Base Target Number is your current value of Head points. This Base Target Number can be modified by different factors. Some of them already have been stated before and are listed here again only to have all of them in one place:

+1 Target is within short range

+1 Attacker attacks in melee using a dedicated melee weapon

+1 If there is an option to attack the target's back side

+1 Attacker is in a position higher than defender's head

+1 Synchronized fire

-1 Target is within long range

-1 Target is behind cover

-1 Target has performed a Run action this turn

All boni and mali are cumulative! So, synchronized fire (+1) on a target within short range (+1) behind cover (-1) results in a bonus of +1 to the Base Target Number. The modified Base Target Number is your Final Target Number.

Each die rolled which is not the "crit die" with a result equal to or less than your Final Target Number scores 1 hit. If you scored at least 1 hit, roll another die and compare that die's result against the table of body parts to check which body part you have hit. Reduce the current points of that body part by the amount of hits you scored. If you scored more hits than the determined body part has remaining points, any excess damage goes into the torso. Once the torso has reached 0 remaining points, the mech is destroyed. (Don't worry. The mech's pilot is ejected and lands somewhere far, far away to fight another day... Just remember to TRACK THAT POD!)

Also, if you scored at least 1 hit and the "crit die" rolled a 1, the damage caused is critical. In that case check, whether the according body part contains an upgrade. If it does, the upgrade is destroyed and cannot be used anymore. If it does not, the torso receives 1 damage.

Attacking with 1 weapon generates 1 Heat. Attacking with 2 synchronized weapons generates 2 Heat.

Overwatch (1)

The player's turn ends immediately. However, at any time during another player's action you may try to interrupt that player's action in order to react. Roll a die. If the result of the die rolled is higher than your mech's current Heat, your pilot may react by performing a Run or an Attack action. You have to generate Heat as usual for that action which might result in overheating.

Use Upgrade (X)

Use any one Upgrade labled Active. Using an Upgrade usually allows you to perform or to enhance an action by generating additional Heat. I believe, the game is meant to be played with just the central piece and nothing else. In hindsight, those additional trees within the gaming area were more of a hinderance as they toppled over every time I moved a model past them, and the marbles rolled away, so I had to put them back. All those have not been necessary - but they surely added to the scene :)

CatZeyeS Entertainmenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06718150623246133867noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1029926349759031705.post-29543504929802218912023-08-15T09:33:00.002-07:002023-08-15T09:33:56.968-07:00Skirmishdeck - first draft

Tired of playing the same 5-7 missions over and over again?

Time to try something new?

The Skirmish deck comes to aid:

Written as a generic tool with no certain ruleset in mind, this deck provides you with 26 cards to combine into multi-objective missions for your scenario. Place 1D6 Minions in base to base contact to the investigating model. The model's turn ends and one of those Minions acts immediately.

3: Scare -> Raise this model's Insanity by 1. This model immediately moves its full movement towards the corner it started in. This is an additional movement. This time, only if this additional movment ends in base to base contact to an opposing model, a Duel is initiated.

4: Hint -> This model may immediately move its full movement towards the next Investigation marker. This is an additional movement. This time, only if this additional movment ends in base to base contact to an opposing model, a Duel is initiated.

5: Clue -> This model receives a clue marker. Discard the clue marker any time whenever this model gets to roll dice, to roll 1 additional die.

6: Fact -> This model recieves a fact marker. Discard the fact marker any time whenever this model gets to roll dice to add 1 to each die rolled. You can apply this modifier only once.

7: Secret -> Remove the Jumpscare Marker the closest to this model

What's following is a brainstorm - I hope anything of this makes sense, when I re-write this into the rulebook:

Occult

Strange cults following ancient deities with unspeakable names battle each other.

Heroes can purchase the scenario specific traits "Occultist" and "Choir" (see below).

For this scenario, a player's warband is called a Cult.

Each Cult is in possession of a Book of Rituals. Inside this book all the Rituals known to a Cult can be found. Each Hero with the trait "Occultist" is able to perform any one of the Rituals from his Cult's Book of Rituals during his activation.

Each cult starts with a Spirit Die on 1. Each cult uses a separate Spirit die and each cult's Spirit die is used for the entire cult.

Only Heroes can perform Rituals. Each ritual uses up one action. After performing a ritual, a Hero rolls his 3 dice, adding the value of the Spirit Die to each of them. Each result of 7 or more leads to 1 "Incantation", but also raises the performing Hero's insanity by 1. Then the Spirit Die is raised by 1.

If a Hero starts performing a Ritual within line of sight to any number of opposing fighters, he immediately initiates a Duel using the value of his cult's Spirit Die as his Duel Score. The opposing fighters return fire as usual. If the initiating Hero gets to act first or at the same time as one of the other fighters, he can roll for Incantations unhindered. If any other fighter gets to return fire before the initiating Hero and scores at least 1 hit, additionally to damage the Ritual is interrupted and does not get resolved. In that case the cult's Spirit Die is not raised either.

A Hero may buy the Trait "Choir". "Choir" can be bought once per ganger the Hero has bought as follower. "Choir" allows a Hero to ignore the first X levels of insanity with X being the number of times "Choir" has been bought.

A Hero can perform an action to "soothe the spirits" - to reduce the Spirit Die by 1. The Spirit Die can never be reduced below 1.

A Hero may buy the Trait "Occultist". For each time this trait has been bought, the Hero adds 1 Ritual to the Book of Rituals known to the Cult. Each Hero with at least one "Occultist" Trait may use his cult's entire Book of Rituals to perform a Ritual (see above) at any time during a Match.

A ritual always requires a target other than the Hero performing it. The term "this fighter" in a ritual's description thus always means the fighter targeted by the ritual. X always is the number of "Incantations" of a ritual. You might want to use counters to show, which ritual has been cast at which strength onto a fighter. A fighter can only be affected by the effects of one Ritual at any given time. As long as a ritual is active on a fighter, that fighter cannot become the target of a Ritual other than Neutralize.

Armour

The next time this fighter initiates or becomes engaged in a Duel, a fighter rolling dice against this fighter does so with a modifier of -X.

Bladestorm

The next time this fighter initiates a Duel in melee, he does so with an additional X dice.

Cannibalism

Initiate a Duel with an opposing fighter in melee. If the opposing fighter is removed from play, this fighter immediately recovers X Toughness up to his initial value in Toughness.

Determination

For the next X rounds, whenever this fighter becomes engaged in a duel and survives, he may immediately initiate a Duel in return. This does not count against this fighter's regular actions.

Explosion

This fighter as well as each model at least partially within X" to this fighter immediately suffers 1 hit.

Fortification

This fighter cannot perform his next action. As long as this fighter does not move (voluntarily or involuntarily), each other fighter within X inches to this fighter ignores 1 hit during each Duel.

Gust

Immediately move this fighter X inches into any one direction. This does not cause this fighter to initiate a Duel.

Harass

This fighter has to reroll up to the next X hits he scores during his next Duel.

Irritation

If this fighter ends his next Action within 2X" to one of his allied models, he initiates a Duel with that model if possible. You then get to select the duel score and to roll the dice for this fighter.

Jabber

When performing a ritual during his next activation, this fighter has to reroll up to X Incantations and take the 2nd result instead.

Kowtow

If this opposing fighter is within X" to the performer of this Ritual, immediately perform an activation with this fighter. This activation does not count as this fighter's regular activation.

Leap

During his next activation, when moving this fighter may ignore one obstacle up to X" high and X" deep. This fighter has to end his movement in a valid position, though.

Mask

Until his next activation, other models not in base to base contact to this fighter cannot initiate a Duel with this fighter for as long as this fighter does not return fire on an opposing model ending its activation within line of sight to this fighter. If during his next activation this fighter moves no more than X", the effect remains in place until the end of the round.

Neutralize

Remove the effect of a ritual on this fighter, if this fighter is within 8X" of the performer of this Ritual.

Obligate

If this allied fighter is within 4X" to the performer of this Ritual, perform an activation with this fighter. This does not count as this fighter's regular activation.

Quake

All models within X" to this fighter are immediately placed prone. Any Hero among them becomes stunned.

Roar

All models within 2X" to this fighter immediately perform one movement action in a straight line away from this fighter. This does not count against the regular action of those models.

Summon

Summon a duplicate of this fighter, if this fighter is a ganger allied to the performer of this Ritual. The duplicate may activate from the beginning of the next roud on and it stays either until the end of the next X round(s) or upon receiving 1 hit.

Untamed

This fighter may reroll up to X dice not scoring a hit the next time he is engaged in a Duel.

Velocity

During his next activation, this fighter may perform X actions additionally. After each of these actions he needs to check, whether he initiates a Duel.

Watch

If this fighter does not perform any action during his next activation, he receives a modifier of +X whenever he returns fire until his next activation.

Xerophtalmia

During his next activation, whenever this fighter targets another model with an action, he receives a -X modifier on any die he rolls.

Yell

This fighter as well as all other models within X" that are either prone or stunned are immediately stood up. If they haven't acted yet this turn, they may act from their player's next turn on.

Zap

This fighter immediately receives X hits.

CatZeyeS Entertainmenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06718150623246133867noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1029926349759031705.post-66832500716336077552023-05-03T13:42:00.007-07:002023-05-03T14:31:09.117-07:00Joust

Loosely based on the rules for Duel, Joust is a game in which knights go through a Jousting turnament.

Teams of knights are paired up and clash in encounters.

While throwing their opponent ends an encounter, breaking lances is, what scores points.

Having just two and a half pages of rules, "Joust" will go through a beta test before the ruleset will be released on the CatZeyeS Homepage.

If you want it, go and get it:

https://bit.ly/joustthegame
CatZeyeS Entertainmenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06718150623246133867noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1029926349759031705.post-17867286305762830092023-04-17T03:43:00.001-07:002023-04-17T03:47:03.101-07:00Herding28 - because NonCombatTabletop just got cute
Fishing 28 (see the previous posting) took me to a discord community, where non combat tabletops are developed.

There I found the sweetest game of them all: Herding28

Check it out - totally worth it:

Or in German:

Oh boy ...

Your game is NOT silly, man! This token can represent literally anything. The first player to carry the token off the gaming area with one of his fighters wins.

King of the Hill.

Only works with the optional rule Respawn.

Place 5 control points in the area in the same vein as the 5 pips on a six sided die, with the central controlpoint lying in the centre of the gaming area and the outer control points being 6" away from the central control point so they are right on the centre of the line from the central control point to the border.

Each team has got a number of markers equal to the number of control points.

To claim a control point, at the end of upkeep have more fighters than any other player at a control point. Replace the control point with one of your markers. This counts as a control point under your control.

At the very beginning of upkeep receive 1 VP for each control point you are controlling.

First team to receive 20 VP wins. If both teams reach 20 (or more) VP on the same turn, a sudden death mode is activated, which revokes the Respawn rule.

Capture the Flag

Only works with the optional rule Respawn.

Each team has got a flag in the home corner. Grab that flag and bring it into your base with your own flag in place to score 1 VP.

The first team to score 2 VPs wins.

Tug of War

Only works with the optional rule Respawn.

Place 3 control points: one in the very centre, the other two right between the centre and a team's starting corner. The first team to control all 3 control points wins.
CatZeyeS Entertainmenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06718150623246133867noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1029926349759031705.post-47628871861140585582023-01-18T09:06:00.002-08:002023-01-18T09:06:26.374-08:00Duel ... Stuff to add / to change

Some things I want to add and/or change for "Duel":

1.) Revamp the Core Rules and move stuff out to the optional rules.

The Core Rules should be all about "2 players play with 1 fighter each on a 1'x1' area". Nothing more. Also, Movement is movement. No jumping. No falling. Not in the core rules!

2.) Revamp the Core Rules and move stuff out to the optional rules (continued)

Jumping - make it an optional rule

Climbing - make it an optional rule

Falling - include falling into Jumping and Climbing

Field more than 1 model per player. This is at best hinted at in the core rules and also in the optional rules. You can read between the lines, that playing with multiple miniatures is possible. However, I should explain this in a separate optional rule. The rule is called "Field more than 1 model per player" as F comes before H for Hero, so when you read the optional rules for Heroes you are familiar with the concept of multiple miniatures for one player.

Initiative, turn oder and especially Dueling with multiple miniatures per player needs to be explained!

2.) Rename "Dodge" to "Avoid Damage".

I have a hard time imagining Zombies dodging... Also, "avoiding damage" is, what dodging is in the first place. It's just a broader term than can be applied to more possibilities: Damage can be soaked up, dodged, deflected - whatever you can think up.

3.) Melee + Duels

I need to explain Melee better. Melee makes "Avoid Damage" unavoidable and thus mandatory. Also I need to introduce the term "participant in a Duel". See some good reasons for that below.

Also I need to introduce the maneuver "move out of combat"/"retaliate": If a model is locked in melee, it might just want to move out of melee. This action immediately initiates a Duel, in which the model moving out of melee may only go for "Avoid Damage". All opposing models in that melee will "retaliate" and try to hit the model moving out of damage according to the regular melee rules versus the "Avoid Damage" rule.

4.) More Photos.

Not just because. More like: Photos, so you readers can understand better, what I'm trying to explain.

5.) A "Night Raid" Scenario

May be combined with other scenarios. Special rule "Darkness" is active: Line of sight is reduced down to 8". Light sources can have 1", 2" or 3" radius, depending on their size. Anything within the radius of a light source can be drawn line of sight to and can become the target of a Duel, if a weapon's reach is sufficient.

5.) Rename Xtra Attack into Xtreme Reaction because see below ...

6.) More skills

If I want to send "Duel" to my printing company, I need way more pages. So, here goes a little bit of content. More skills, once again a selection of skills from A-Z (and this time some more melee oriented skills):

Absorb Health

Every time this Hero removes another model from play, this Hero receives 1 additional toughness. This Hero cannot receive more than 3 additional toughness.

Bodyguard

Designate any one other model as this Hero's "bodyguard". As long as this Hero is within 2" of its bodyguard, all damage received from any one source to this Hero may be redirected to the bodyguard, causing him to receive the damage instead. The bodyguard does not necessarily have to be a valid target for the source in the first place and does not get to use his own skills or equipment to reduce that damage. Also, by the time he receives damage the bodyguard can only return fire, if the source of the damage is a valid target for him.

Chained shot

Special Attack

Upon initiating a Duel this Hero may target any one model within 2" to a target within line of sight and weapon's reach of this Hero, even if the newly targeted model is not within line of sight or weapon's reach of your Hero.

If your newly targeted model cannot return fire, it may still try to avoid damage.

Defensive

When avoiding damage, this Hero can still avoid damage if your Duel Score is equal to an opponent's Duel Score.

Extra Attack

Special Attack

If this Hero initiates a Duel and is still standing after that Duel, you may roll one more die and add it to your Duel Score. If the final result is 7 or more after all applicable modifiers, this Hero scored another hit.

Fighter

Whenever this Hero participates in a melee Duel, if your Duel Score is equal to or below your opponent's Duel Score, you may decide for each die rolled whether you want to use it to avoid damage (as described in the according optional rules) or to cause your opponent's model to take a hit.

Grudge

Designate one opposing Hero this Hero has a grudge on. Whenever this Hero participates in a Duel with that opposing Hero, this Hero may reroll any die that has not scored a hit once.

Hurl

Special Attack

During its activation this Hero may hurl any model having a smaller base and standing in base to base contact to this Hero up to a certain number of inches into any direction (see below). The model hurled must be placed in a position where it can stand safely or must be placed in a different position.

Models belonging to the same warband of this model can be hurled up to 8".

Opposing models may try to resist being hurled. In that case a Duel is initiated, where the opposing model only can opt for avoiding hits. Each hit scored nonetheless allows this Hero to hurl the opposing model up to 2" instead of causing a hit. The model hurled must be placed in a position where it can stand safely or must be placed in a different position. Also, you may opt to use a combination of "actual hits scored" and "hits exchanged for inches hurled". If, for example, this model scores 2 hits on an opposing model, it may cause 1 hit and hurl the opposing model 2".

Irresponsible

Can only be selected if each player plays with "more than one model".

Neither can this Hero use its skills to benefit others, nor can other models use their skills to benefit this Hero.

As long as this Hero is at least 4" away from all other models its own warband, whenever this Hero participates in a Duel, you may ask each other participating player to reveal their Duel Score before you reveal your Duel Score. If you do, you roll your Duel Score once the last player has revealed his Duel Score.

Juggernaut

Whenever this Hero participates in a melee Duel, each unmodified 6 rolled for this Hero counts as 2 hits.

Killer Instinct

Whenever this Hero removes another model from play, he remains standing and in play at least until the end of this turn. Only if he recieves enough hits to be taken out of the game (read: 1 hit per point of toughness, 1 hit for going prone and yet another 1 hit for being taken out of the game), this Hero is removed from the game during the next Upkeep Phase. If after the next Upkeep Phase this Hero is still in the game, he remains standing.

Large

This Hero is larger than others and fully aware of that fact. Whenever this Hero participates in a melee Duel with another model on a smaller base, add +1 on each die rolled for this Hero.

Manhunt

Select 1 enemy Hero as your "prey". As soon as your prey moves into a position where this model could move into line of sight of your prey with just 1 movement action, if the prey is still standing after its activation, this Hero may immediately perform one activation to move into line of sight with the prey and may immediately initiate a Duel.

This activation is additional to the regular activation this Hero has got for this turn.

Night Vision

This Hero ignores the rules for Darkness in the optional scenario "Nightraid".

Off Hand Weapon

Requires this Hero to wield 2 weapons. One of these weapons may be a onehanded ranged weapon, the other weapon must be a onehanded melee weapon.

Whenever this Hero participates in a melee Duel, you may roll 1 additional die.

When using a ranged weapon for your offhand weapon, you must still roll for "Jamming Weapons", if you use that optional rule.

Prehensile

Models in base to base contact to this Hero cannot move away from this Hero. Not even with the skill "swift".

Quake

Whenever this Hero participates in a melee duel, for each hit scored each opposing model in base to base contact to this Hero is moved away up to 1" in a straight line per hit scored instead of taking a hit. Any obstacles on that way end that movement early and cause the model moved to take 1 hit anyway. (So, if you score 2 hits and decide to move an opposing model away, but there is a wall after 1.5", the opposing model only moves 1.5" just up to the wall instead of through the wall and then takes 1 hit.) Opposing models cannot defend against this movement.

This Hero still can cause hits to opponent models simply by not using this skill.

Regenerate

If this Hero has got any points in toughness, as long as he is standing during upkeep he receives 1 toughness.

This cannot raise his toughness higher than the initial toughness.

Swift

When in base to base contact with another model, this Hero may move away normally. Opposing models cannot retaliate.

Thrall

Requires this Hero to have followers. Any number of this Hero's followers can be designated as a "thrall" each. A thrall can never use the action "interact" or be used to fulfil a victory condition. A thrall can not initiate a Duel or return fire. A thrall can only try to avoid damage. A thrall may move into base to base contact with this model either to immediately restore 1 toughness. This cannot raise this model's toughness above its initial toughness. Or when this Hero is placed prone moving a Thrall into base to base contact immediately lets this Hero stand back up again.

In both cases the thrall is immediately removed from play.

Underdog

Whenever this Hero initiates a Duel where he is within line of sight of more than one opposing model, this Hero recieves a bonus of +1 on each die rolled.

Valorous

If this Hero is still standing after having participated in a Duel during which he returned fire and has not activated yet this turn, this Hero may immediately perform a movement action towards an opponent's model other than the one that has initiated the Duel.

If this brings this Hero within line of sight of at least one other opposing model, this Hero initiates a new Duel.

This counts as this Hero's activation for this turn.

Wicked

Special Attack

After revealing your Duel Score but before rolling dice immediately take any number (=X) of hits. If this would cause this Hero to be placed prone, leave this Hero standing for now and place him prone after the Duel.

This Hero recieves +X on each die rolled.

Xenos

Any Hero with the "Xenos" skill may use any other Hero's line of sight for targeting opposing models, as long as that other Hero has got the "Xenos" skill, too. This Hero is still restricted to his own weapon's reach, though!

Yellow

This Hero may be placed prone at any time during his activation. This may cause him to disappear behind terrain, so other models can no longer draw line of sight to this Hero. If this Hero has been placed prone by using this skill, he needs to spend his regular action to get up again.

Zealous

You may use this Hero's activation to activate any one other model of your warband, including another Hero, within 8". This way you can even activate a model that already has been activated this turn.
CatZeyeS Entertainmenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06718150623246133867noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1029926349759031705.post-33677819653384472512023-01-15T02:55:00.001-08:002023-01-15T02:55:12.660-08:00Duel - The Rules
Some viewers of the previous video told me, they would love to get a better explanation of the rules.

Here goes:

CatZeyeS Entertainmenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06718150623246133867noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1029926349759031705.post-37783055896460903152022-12-18T07:58:00.001-08:002022-12-18T07:58:18.863-08:00Artificial Art in Games
I tried my hand at having midjourney create a world map.

The result looks impressive at first glance:

However, once you start looking at the details, you can recognize the flaws.

In all seriousness: mountains consisting of water? Trees in the midst of the ocean? And the flow of the rivers is a catastrophe!

Having posted this "map" on my Social Media Accounts, I received mixed replies.

I really do appreciate your comments.
Each and every one of them.

I understand, how this whole topic is difficult at best for at least as long as there is no jurisdiction for art like that.

Also, I agree with statements along the lines of "much to learn you still have, young A.I.". They are simply the truth: The A.I. here shows, how it does not have a single clue about how mountains do not consist of water, how rivers should flow and what else.

For now.

However, I think, what I presented here is going to be the future. Inevitably. The creators of those A.I.s do not want to present their creation as a failure. The machines are getting better at picturing and "imagining" stuff. With every day.
