How to build a SciFi hut

 

Crafting terrain not only can be cheap - but tasty as well.

What you need to craft a hut as the one above is:

A cup - this one comes with some holes punched in symmetrically.

 A "Quetschie" (I don't know the English term for it) - or rather the lid of it.

Coffee stirrers - mmmmhhh ... coffee ...

White glue

Spraycolours (grey, silver) and felttips, because I wouldn't want to use a brush for a thing as big as that cup. Also I cannot paint straight lines with a brush, so black and yellow felttips it is.

Start by cutting out an entry to the hut. Don't worry about the fuzzy borders, we'll make them disappear.

Cut down a coffee stirrer and glue the parts around the entry. Also, use white glue on the bottom border. See - the fuzzy borders just disappeared.

Spray the "Quetschie" lid silver (inside and outside)

Paint 5 remaining coffee stirrers black and yellow. This is, where the felttips (along with a ruler) come in handy.

Spraypaint the "building" grey. If you want to, this can already be fine.

I, however, took some "granite effect" spray (yes, that's actually a thing!) to add a nice effect.

Now trim down the black and yellow coffee stirrers and glue them straight down in equal distance to each other. If you don't have any holes as a reference, you may want to start with the one directly opposing the entry. Then, by dividing the area between the entrie's corner and the opposing stirrer into 3 equal parts on to the left and to the right each, you get the places to glue the remaining stirrers.

You will have some leftover stirrers - there currently is no need for them anymore. (But, of course, you are free to find a use for them :) )

At last, glue the "Quetschie" Lid onto the top - tadaa, you're done!

Crafting Time - using those silverster rocket sticks and coffee stirrer

Today I'd like to show you, how to craft simple stuff to spice up your terrain.

Did you take a walk on new year's eve, too, doing something for the environment and collect all those sticks from rockets?

Well, then you've got something to do with them. Here I', going to show you, how to build some real fancy fences.

What you need: 2 sticks, some coffee stirrers, some bases, glue, sand.

Start by cutting the sticks into pieces of roughly 2cm (that's 4/5th of an inch). Those are your poles. You will need 3 poles for each piece of a fence.

Sand down one side of a pole.

Make sure, it is flat - as this is the part you will be glueing onto the bases.

Just like this: Cover the entire base with glue, add the pole.

Then cover the base with sand.

Now go for the coffee stirrers. Start by cutting off the edges:

Glue 2 stirrers to 3 poles each:

Now go for the "I am too lazy to paint" method and use some brown spray to basecoat everything:

Get some colour. On this photo it is barely recognizable, but those colours are actually a gray and a white colour:

Drybrush the sand on the bases, first with gray, then with white. (Note: for a more rocky/sandy look, you may want to go for a stonegray first and bleached bone second.)

If you want to, you can now add some static grass to the bases.
